KARACHI: A woman and her teenage neighbour were killed in her house in Federal B Industrial Area in the name of honour on Sunday, police said.

They said that the victims were strangled by the woman’s husband, Sabir, with the help of her father, because they had suspicion about her character.

Area SHO Shafiq Rehman said that the woman’s husband, Sabir, managed to escape from the crime scene, but was later arrested along with his father-in-law.

He quoted Sabir as telling the police that he worked in Saudi Arabia as a driver and came to Pakistan on Eid holidays. He said he woke up in the middle of the night but did not find his wife in the room. He said he went to another room which was locked from inside. He said he found his teenaged neighbour inside and started beating him. Finally, he said, he strangled him with a bedsheet. Later, Sabir also strangled his wife, the area SHO said, adding that the suspect lived in his in-laws’ house.

It was his second marriage and he had four children from his first wife, who lived in Lyari, the police said.

The SHO said the double murder took place in the presence of the woman’s father, who was also taken into custody.

“Sabir confessed to have committed the double murder and did not show any remorse,” said the SHO.

The suspect and his in-laws originally hailed from Waziristan.
