KARACHI: Nine local pugilists were among 14 who stormed into semi-finals of different weight categories on the opening day of the two-day SSB all-Sindh Defence Day boxing tournament which commenced here at the Ustad Ali Mohammad Qambrani Boxing Stadium, Kakri Ground, on Wednesday.

Of the nine successful boxers, five belonged to Karachi Greens while the rest represent Karachi Yellows.

They were joined by two boxers from Hyderabad and one each from Larkana, Mirpurkhas and Sindh Rangers.

The semi-finals will be held on Thursday at 10.30am while the finals takes place in the evening.

Results:

First round:
49 kg: Zohaib Rasheed (Karachi Greens)) bt Bilawal (Benazirabad) 3-0; Karim Bux (Karachi Yellows)) bt Mohammad Ismail (Mirpurkhas) 2-1.

56 kg: Najad (Karachi Greens) bt Abdul Rehman (Hyderabad) 3-0; Naseer (Larkana) bt Noman (Sukkur) 2-1; Bilal (Hyderabad) bt Zedan (Benazirabad) 3-0; Shahzeb (Karachi Yellows) bt Faizan (Mirpurkhas) 2-1.

60 kg: Umair (Karachi Yellows) bt Salman (Larkana) 3-0; Abdul Wahid (Karachi Greens) bt Raees-ul-Haq (Benazirabad) 2-1; Naveed (Hyderabad) bt Bilal (Sukkur) 2-1.

64 kg: Faraz (Sindh Rangers) bt Sameer (Karachi Yellows) 3-0.

69 kg: Naqeebullah (Karachi Greens) bt Mohammad Umair (Sukkur) 3-0; Umer Khan (Karachi Yellows) bt Nomanullah (Mirpurkhas) 2-1.

75 kg: Ghulamullah Khan (Mirpurkhas) bt Adil Ali (Sukkur) 2-1.

81 kg: Nasrullah (Karachi Greens) bt Hayatullah (Larkana) 3-0.
