ISLAMABAD: The district administration has dissolved the managing committee of the Senate Secretariat Employees Cooperating Housing Society.

After dissolving the management committee because of lack of quorum, Cooperative Societies Department Circle Registrar Asghar Khan Niazi appointed Assistant Director Local Government and Rural Development Syed Shafaqat Hussain Shah as the administrator of the society.

The registrar tasked the administrator with holding fresh elections of the society within 60 days. However, sources said, since the issuance of the notification on Aug 17 the new administrator could not get the charge of his office indicating a delay in the elections.

Out of the five office-bearers, managing committee vice president Khalid Zaman and executive member Faheem Khan had resigned.

In their resignation letters, they said the president of the society never took them into confidence and failed to run the society according to the rules.

They also claimed that no progress had been made regarding plots of bona fide members. After their resignations, the circle registrar had to dissolve the managing committee because of lack of quorum.

During the tenure of former president Pervez Musharraf, the CDA had approved the layout plan of the society. The successive managements of the society sold out plots but failed to develop them.

The society has also failed to get a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the CDA.

When contacted, Circle Registrar Niazi confirmed that the managing committee had been dissolved. He said the administrator could not take the charge as the Senate Secretariat had directed the capital administration not to proceed further on the matter for the time being. He said the Senate Secretariat had also sought a briefing on the society.

“We will move forward in the light of the directive from the Senate,” he said.
