KARACHI: The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) has appointed veteran Olympian and former Pakistan captain Islahuddin Siddiqui as member Jury of Appeals for the ongoing Asian Games in Jakarta.

Islah, who had remained member of Rules Board of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) for 17 years, had earlier served as technical official, judge in the Olympics, World Cups, Asian Games and Champions Trophy editions.

He also had the honour of working closely with the late AHF president Sultan Azlan Shah for long and gave his input.

“My nomination is an honour for me and the nation,” Islah, who is due to fly to Indonesian capital shortly, said on Sunday.

It is pertinent to mention that under his captaincy Pakistan completed a Grand Slam in 1978 by winning inaugural the Champions Trophy in Lahore, the World Cup in Buneos Aires and the Asian Games in Bangkok.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Tahir Jamil Khanzada has been appointed as International Technical Official for the squash event by the Asian Games organising committee and Asian Squash Federation (ASF).

This is the third time Hyderabad-based Khanzada has been appointed as technical official in the Asian Games. He is also World Squash Federation referee since 2004.

Khanzada, who left for Jakarta on Sunday, has expressed his gratitude to the ASF and the Pakistan Squash Federation for recommending him.
