LAHORE: Sialkot and some Azad Kashmir cities received heavy rain on Wednesday and the Flood Forecasting Division forecast isolated heavy falls over upper catchments of all major rivers along with Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.

Monsoon moist currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea had again started reaching upper parts of the country after a brief interval on Monday. They were penetrating upper parts of the country up to 5,000 feet and were expected to further intensify in the next 24 hours.

The FFD said a fresh westerly wave was also expected to prevail over upper parts of the country, generating rain in league with the moisture. It said the system would give rain-thundershower with gusty winds at number of places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Hazara divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir, while at scattered places in Malakand, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismeal Khan, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Sahiwal divisions, Fata and at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan in the next 24 hours. Heavy falls are also expected at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions and Kashmir.

The Met office said rain-thundershowers with gusty winds occurred at isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala divisions and Kashmir on Wednesday.
