ISLAMABAD: The Canadian-Pakistan Foundation of Friendship (CPFF) has announced awarding scholarships to five Pakistan-origin students living in Canada every year to pursue higher studies at the Ryerson University of Toronto.

The foundation signed an agreement with the Ryerson University at a ceremony in Toronto on Saturday for donating 50,000 Canadian dollars on account of CPFF award for first generation students at Ryerson.

Canada’s Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen and Pakistan High Commissioner Tariq Azim Khan were present at the ceremony.

The initiative is aimed at funding university programmes in Canada which are focused on Pakistan for the purpose of promoting diversity.

The foundation also announced to raise funds from its members to provide donations to local hospitals in Canada and health care facilities in Pakistan. It will take initiatives to promote better understanding of Pakistani culture and traditions in the Canadian society.

In his brief remarks, High Commissioner Tariq Azim Khan expressed the hope that the foundation will help bring Pakistan and Canada together.
