KARACHI: Caretaker Chief Minister Fazal-ur-Rahman has assured the business community that their issues with the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) will be resolved within a week.

“You are playing an important role in the development of national economy and as such you are important for all the governments,” he said.

The chief minister gave this assurance when a 58-member delegation of the Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, led by Mian Zahid Hussain, called on him at CM House here on Monday.

Other than the members of FPCCI and KCCI, the delegation included seven caretaker ministers from other provinces — Anjum Nisar and Nauman Kabir from Punjab; Haji Fazle Elahi from KP; and Naveed Jan Baloch, Farzana Baloch, Malik Khurram Shahzad and Imam Bux Baloch from Balochistan.

The businessmen from Karachi drew attention of Mr Rahman towards tax issues being faced by them.

Polio task force

The chief minister, while presiding over a meeting of the provincial task force on polio at the CM house, expressed happiness that Sindh had not reported a single case of polio this year and commended polio eradication officers, front-line workers and security personnel.

Besides others, the meeting was attended by provincial minister for health; chief secretary; secretaries for health, finance, home, education and literacy; principal secretary to CM; the city mayor; commissioner; technical coordinator of emergency operation centre (EOC) Shahnaz Wazir Ali and EOC coordinator Fayaz Jatoi.

Mr Jatoi told the chief minister there had been 306 polio cases in the country in 2014 which included 30 from Sindh. Karachi had 23 of them. Due to consistent efforts of the province no such case had been reported this year.

The EOC coordinator requested the CM to allow them to vaccinate children in schools especially in District West of the city, where parents refused to get their kids vaccinated.

The chief minister directed the education department to issue a notification that schools should welcome polio vaccination teams.

Shahnaz Wazir Ali said the polio eradication programme in Pakistan was started in 1994 when former prime minister Benazir Bhutto vaccinated her own children to mark the occasion.

Sindh Health Minister Dr Sadia Rizvi said she was impressed with the way the polio eradication programme was structured.
