LAHORE: A Lahore High Court appellate tribunal on Tuesday dismissed appeals of two candidates against rejection of their nomination papers by the returning officers.
Shah Zaid of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had challenged the rejection of his nomination papers from NA-127, Lahore. In his appeal, he contended that the returning officer rejected his papers on the basis of his [surrendered] dual nationality. He asked the tribunal to set aside the impugned decision of the returning officer and declare him eligible to contest the upcoming general election.
Faiz Mahmood of Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (Noorani) had assailed the rejection of nomination papers from NA-137, Kasur.
The tribunal comprising Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh dismissed both appeals and upheld the decisions of the returning officers.
