Slick Pakistan rout Scotland by 84 runs in second T20, sweep series 2-0

Shoaib Malik blasted a quick-fire 49 as Pakistan powered to an 84-run rout of Scotland in the second Twenty20 international on Wednesday.

Malik's unbeaten innings took just 22 balls and containing five sixes and one four, setting the stage for Pakistan to seal a 2-0 series win.

Fakhar Zaman (33) and Ahmed Shehzad (24) rattled up a 60-run partnership for the first wicket in Edinburgh before Scotland hit back to reduce the tourists to 98-5.

Following on from Sunday's historic win over England — the world's top-ranked one-day international side — Scotland were hoping to claim another big scalp against the number-one ranked T20 nation.

Michael Leask's three wickets gave Scotland hope, but Shoaib's brutal hitting kept Pakistan in charge as his side reached 166-6 after their 20 overs.

Scotland had scored 156 in a losing effort in the first T20 clash with Pakistan on Tuesday, but this time they were unable to muster a decent response.

George Munsey was caught for a duck after just two balls and Pakistan made short work of the rest as the Scots finished 82 all out after just 15 overs.

Faheem Ashraf took three wickets and Usman Khan claimed two in a commanding display from the Pakistan bowling attack.

It was good to see Sarfraz making a telling contribution in the first match. This is important for him. If he had only contributed with the bat in the test match, the outcome may have been different. The captain needs to lead from the front....he needs to be reminded of that. Needs to Work harder on his batting.

Kudos to Pakistan, but they need to enhance their stamina, skills and technique for the real form of game i.e. Test cricket. Although they beat England at Lords, the win against Ireland was a close call and Headingly exposed their weaknesses to the hilt. Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq , Sarfraz Ahmed and Baabar Azam need to fill the void left by Younis and Misbah. Moreover other fast bowling talent should be groomed apart from Amir and Abbas to dismiss the opponents twice in a Test match.

@Sab Se Pehle Pakistan yes, but Sarfraz needs to improve his contribution, loook at successful,captains all lead from the front, if he can’t score then lot of pressure on him! We must not be complacent, we need to set high benchmark and not be happy with mediocrity

A good result in the end but it could easily have been disastrous as too many fell cheaply before it was steadied by the usual pair Shoaib Malick and Shadab Khan, with Captain making little or no contribution with the bat. The debutant Talat Hussain proved a failure and will have to do more if he wants to cement his place in the Pakistani batting order. Pakistan proved a handful in their bowling department with the indent of Shenwari and may be the bowling attack Pakistan at want to go with. The 16 year rookie Afridi is in the wings, so Amir may be a good option to retain should one of them failed to perform.

@Riaz "Sarfraz needs to improve his contribution, loook at successful,captains all lead from the front" all other Captains were batsman whereas Sarfraz is first wicket keeper then batsman his immaculate wicket keeping gives confidence to the bowlers who are blowing with full spirit because they know Sarfraz is behind the wickets whereas his bating is a plus point therefore his performance must be judged on the basis of his wicket keeping and off course on the basis of his decisions which he make as a captain

@Riaz he has the highest success rate as a T20 captain! You are mixing up different formats. He’s a great change from the old guard, a team player who wants Pakistan to win. He doesn’t promote himself for easy scores like Inzamam, he doesn’t defend his wicket while youngsters get out trying to accelerate like Misbah. He plays according to the situation and hence sacrifices his wicket. We should focus on end result of the game. He’s a great motivator and extracts the best out of a very young side. We need to support him rather than criticize. Look at where the team is now vs in the past 7-10 years.
