BANGALORE: No less than 293 detenus lodged in various jails in the State have been ordered by the Mysore Government to be released, 159 of them unconditionally. Of those who have been placed under detention since 8-8-42 many were released from time to time on their giving satisfactory undertakings in regard to their future behaviour. The total number of these persons under detention in several districts was 511 at the end of April, 1948.

Enquiries in informed circles show that there is no basis for the reports that there would be a general release of all detenus. The policy of the Government in this regard appears to be that any such question can be taken into consideration only when such a move is based on adequate assurances from the parties and organisations that members thereof disapprove of any kind of subversive activities.

[Meanwhile,] working blueprints can now be dispensed with in war factories, thanks to a novel photographic process that has been devised in a U.S. laboratory. A photographic emulsion is sprayed directly upon the huge metal sheets required in building ships, planes and tanks. After being properly exposed, the sheets become full-scale photographs which clearly indicate they have to be drilled, stamped, or cut. As can be imagined, the saving in man-hours is impressive.
