KARACHI: The new budget for the financial year 2018-19 did not carry any new development schemes.

In the budget, the Sindh government has proposed Rs29 billion for 262 ongoing schemes for water supply, sanitation and solid waste management.

Out of which, Rs9.1bn have been allocated for 141 schemes of Public Health Engineering department for water supply and sewerage system, including Karachi’s K-IV water project and S-III sewerage project.

The chief minister said that K-IV and S-III were being co-funded by the federal government.

Referring to mega schemes, Murad Ali Shah said 11 mega schemes for Karachi were being executed.

They are: construction of a road from Tank Chowrangi to Superhighway via Thado Nullah, reconstruction of Tipu Sultan Road from Sharea Faisal to Karsaz, construction of a bridge at Tipu Sultan and Khalid Bin Waleed intersection, reconstruction of Stadium Road, improvement of roads around Cantt Railway Station and from Fawwara Chowk to Garden via Abdullah Haroon Road and back to Fawwara Chowk via Zaibunnisa Street.

The other major schemes are: construction of a bridge over Korangi Nullah, construction of a storm-water drain from Hassan Square to Lyari River and laying of a 24-diameter water supply pipeline from Habib Bank to pump No. 3 for improvement of water supply to Baldia Town.
