KARACHI: Local pugilists showed their prowess by dominating the opening day of the Sindh-Balochistan boxing series which commenced at the Ustad Ali Mohammad Qambrani Boxing Stdium, Kakri Ground, on Friday.

The bouts are being held in three categories — juniors, men and women.

Local juniors made their mark by winning four of the six first round bouts. Those who returned victorious include Tabish (42 kg), Nabeel (44 kg), Shahbaz Jan (46 kg) and Najad Khan (52 kg).

Zainullah (48 kg) and Javed Ahmed (50 kg) of Balochistan powered their way into next stage.

In women’s contests, Maria of Sindh outpointed Malaika Zahid of Balochistan 3-0 in 42kg while Azmeena, also from Sindh, accounted for Mariam 2-1 in 48 kg to give Sindh a solid start in the four-day event.

Sindh won five of the seven competitions in seniors as Balochistan managed to win two.

Shehroz Kachi (49 kg), Aqib Ali (60 kg), Hammad Hussain (64 kg), Umer Khan (69 kg) and Zubair Khan (75 kg) were through to the next stage by winning their bouts.

Mohammad Qasim and Naveed did Balochistan proud in 52 kg and 56 kg respectively.

Earlier, chairman of the DMC South, Malik Fayyaz, inaugurated the event.

The next round of bouts will be he held at the Lyari project boxing club on Saturday.

50 kg: Javed Ahmed (Balochistan) bt Sajid Rasheed (Sindh) 2-1

52 kg: Najad Khan (Sindh) bt Asmatullah (Balochistan) 2-1

Women’s:

42 kg: Maria (Sindh) bt Malaika Zahid (Balochistan) 3-0

48 kg: Azmeena (Sindh) bt Mariam (Balochistan) 2-1

Senior’s:
