KARACHI: ‘Ethics in Action: The Aga Khan Development Network’ — an exhibition showcasing how the AKDN and its agencies, including the Aga Khan University, are improving the quality of life in Pakistan and other developing countries — opened at the AKU here on Thursday.

“We foster intellectual development, reasoning skills, respect for many points of view, the search for knowledge and evidence-based enquiry,” said Dr Carl Amrhein, AKU provost and vice president, academic, at the inaugural ceremony.

The exhibition highlights how the AKDN’s ethical grounding in eight interrelated spheres such as compassion, inclusiveness, self-reliance, education, governance, life and healthcare and sound, mind and environment are the basis for its efforts to empower communities.

The exhibition panels highlight the AKDN’s work to aid the displaced during the 2010 floods in Pakistan, to provide clean water and sanitation facilities to half a million Pakistanis, to deliver sustainable energy in remote areas of northern Pakistan and Tajikistan, and to establish leading universities and hospitals in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kenya.

The exhibition being held at the AKU Sports and Rehabilitation Centre is part of the Diamond Jubilee of the Imamat of His Highness the Aga Khan. It concludes on May 4.
