KOHAT: Most bakeries in Kohat district were not using food colours in their products, said Food Safety Authority’s deputy director Kamran Khan while talking to this correspondent here on Sunday.

Sharing details of the authority’s work since its inception in late March, he said that almost half of the outlets were fined for using non-food colours in preparation of food items. He said that since March 29, the FSA’s team had inspected 158 locations in Kohat among which 16 were penalised.

He said seven of the total outlets were fined for using non-food colours in sweets, ice-cream and meals, and others for use of China salt and rusted utensils, etc. The official said that about 90 per cent of the local schools lacked filtered water.

Meanwhile, additional chief secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dr Shehzad Bangash inaugurated four projects completed with a cost of Rs21.2 million under the divisional headquarters beautification plan here on Sunday.

The completed projects included divisional offices complex, Defence Colony Park and parks in KDA. He also visited the bus stands and local springs and gave suggestions for their beautification.

ARRESTED: The police have arrested an Afghan refugee for killing his friend here in Junglekhel.

Rickshaw driver Saadullah was found dead in his vehicle on Thursday last. During investigations a police team, led by SHO Mohammad Iqbal, it came to fore that a brawl had taken place after which Himkmatullah, an Afghan refugee, killed Saadullah and fled away. A police statement said that a murder case had been registered against him.

Meanwhile, police arrested three women and recovered over five kilogramme of heroin from their possession on the Indus Highway on Sunday.

A Lachi police team stopped a Karachi-bound bus coming from Peshawar and on checking they allegedly recovered over five kilogrammes of heroin from the women. The alleged smugglers belonged to Peshawar. They were presented in the court which sent them to prison after registration of case.
