ISLAMABAD: The local industry on Wednesday demanded the government to appoint permanent chairman and members to the Anti-dumping Appellate Tribunal for speedy disposal of cases and effective functioning of the tribunal.

A meeting in this regard was held under the aegis of Organisation for Advancement and Safeguard of Industrial Sector (OASIS).

Local manufacturers and importers are entitled to file appeals against the decisions of National Tariff Commission (NTC) before the tribunal, which is the competent forum to decide cases pertaining to the anti-dumping duties and countervailing duties.

Advocate High Court Azeem Danial said the division bench of Lahore High Court has suspended final determination made by NTC in tiles case on account of improper constitution of the tribunal.

The tribunal is the competent forum to hear appeals against the decisions of the NTC. It must be fully functional and have a permanent chairman and members to avoid litigation, it was stressed.
