ISLAMABAD: Five Pakistan athletes will participate in the Youth Olympics Qualification and the Junior World Taekwondo Championship to be held from April 4 to 14 in Tunisia.

Female athlete Naqsh Hamdani and four male athletes — Shehzad Ali, Ahmed Khan, Abdullah and Ammar Ashfaq — will compete in the said events being staged in Hammamet, a seaside resort in Tunisia.

Mohammad Ashfaq (head of the team), Master Sung Jae Lee (head coach, Najia Rasool (assistant coach) and Mohammad Nadir Khan (trainer) will be accompanying the athletes.

Meanwhile, president of the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation, retired Lt Col Raja Waseem Ahmed Janjua, during a meeting briefed retired Lt Gen Javed Iqbal, the PTF patron and CE&MD of Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim (FFBL), on the said events.

The PTF patron announced monthly scholarships for the following promising athletes who have done well in recent international contests: Shahzad Ali, Shahzaib Khan, Mohammad Danish, Hira Safdar and Essha Safdar.

Speaking to Dawn, PTF president said Fauji Fertilizer will pay monthly scholarships to said athletes. “Rs12,000 to 15,000 will be given to each athlete,” he said.

During the meeting, the PTF patron also congratulated the federation on Najia Rasool achieving the Presidential Pride of Performance Award recently. A monthly scholarship for Najia was also announced on the occasion.
