KARACHI: Another woman lawmaker belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan left her party and joined the Pak Sarzameen Party on Thursday citing “disloyalty with Mohajirs” by her previous organisation.

Dr Fouzia Hameed was elected a member of the National Assembly as a candidate of the MQM-P on a reserved seat for women from Sindh.

Speaking at a press conference with the PSP leadership at the party’s headquarters, she vowed to struggle from the PSP platform for the rights of Karachiites and said the MQM’s future was in a shambles when it came to the general election.

Only on Wednesday, two women lawmakers quit the MQM-P and announced joining the Mustafa Kamal-led PSP, saying the party they had served for decades had been destroyed by leaders’ internal squabbles and favouritism. Almost the same views were expressed by Dr Hameed when asked about reasons behind her change of heart.

During the press conference, former Karachi mayor and PSP head Mustafa Kamal said the party faced different allegations but did not budge from its manifesto as it was working for the welfare of the people of Karachi.

Mr Kamal also invited members of both MQM-P groups to join his party, reiterating his demand for pardoning Karachi youth as had been done in Fata and Balochistan to include them in the national mainstream.
