RAHIM YAR KHAN: Police on Sunday registered a case against 10 members of a panchayat for allegedly subjecting a minor girl to vani in Kotsamaba area, some 27-km from here.

‘Gh’ of Kotsamaba contracted love marriage with a woman ‘K’ of the same area. The parents of the woman got a kidnap case registered against the man. A panchayat comprising Haq Nawaz, Ashiq Hussain, Farman Ali, Riaz Ahmed, Jamil Ahmed, Fazal Hussain and Nikah Khawan Allah Bachya decided to marry off 13-year-old sister of ‘Gh’ with the brother of ‘K’.

On Sunday, the nikah was being solemnised when police conducted a raid, recovered the boy and the girl and arrested ‘Gh’ and the Nikah Khawan. The panchayat members manged their escape.

Police have registered a case against panchayat members under section 310/341 and 6 of Child Marriage Act.

ARRESTED: Sadiqabad city police have arrested a woman along with her minor daughter and her brother on charges of theft committed by her husband and allegedly kept them in illegal custody for 11 days in a room at the police station.

According to victim Sumera (22), she belonged to Karachi and Sadiqabad police picked her along with her minor daughter Mansa and brother Allah Ditta (7) from Karachi on charges of theft against her husband who managed his escape.

Police spokesperson Arshad Nawaz said the woman was nominated in FIR No 38/18 and she was kept under judicial remand at police station.

He sent a copy of the FIR through WhatsApp to this correspondent but the name of Sumera was not mentioned in the report. He did not attend the call of the reporter.
