SARGODHA: At yet another well-attended gathering of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz followers, Maryam Nawaz on Saturday continued her tirade against the judiciary and said its latest decision of dethroning Nawaz Sharif from the party president slot would prove counter-productive.

“Nawaz Sharif and his party are gaining more power and momentum after the biased decisions of the Supreme Court. First he was ousted from the office of prime minister and now his party has been debarred from contesting the Senate election which is a joke with the people of Pakistan,” she thundered during her speech at Company Bagh, where the party arranged a ‘social media convention’.

Nawaz Sharif it was, she said, who launched a movement for the rights and dignity of the judiciary (during Pervez Musharraf’s regime). “And when he has approached the public for restoring the sanctity of the vote, they (judiciary) are resorting to contempt of court,” she said and added that it was sheer injustice.

She said the Supreme Court had ridiculed the sanctity of vote. Had Nawaz Sharif done any corruption, she said, there wouldn’t have been a sea of jubilant people in the PML-N gatherings. She warned that brinkmanship and conspiracy against democracy would be detrimental to all the institutions of the state.

The ousted premier’s daughter asked the participants in the convention to make a pledge that they would ensure the sanctity of their votes by supporting the PML-N. She expressed hope that Nawaz Sharif would stage a comeback in the general election.

She also urged the party leaders and workers to make use of social media to counter the moves of the opponents.

Earlier, Maryam Nawaz was accorded a warm welcome in the city and Municipal Corporation Mayor Malik Aslam Naveed presented her a gold crown which she donated to a local institution.
