HYDERABAD: Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh has said that judiciary is criticised for allegedly interfering in the domain of others but judges are under oath of the Constitution.

Speaking to the legal fraternity at a reception hosted in his honour on the premises of the civil court here late on Saturday evening.

Justice Shaikh said judiciary was the last resort for the oppressed. Judges should keep themselves in place of litigants while dispensing justice, he said.

“Injustices and tyranny take place in society. The poor always approach courts when a few [people] pocket millions and other people’s rights are snatched,” said Justice Shaikh.

He urged lawyers to own the institutions where they had studied. He called for provision of speedy justice and said that litigants should not suffer in courts.

He said that real solace could be obtained by serving people and not by owning expensive cars and wearing branded clothes.

The chief justice told the audience that while leaving for courts every morning, lawyers should resolve that they would help some needy.

Observing the hardship being faced by people in getting physical access to courts, Justice Shaikh said that the project of a pedestrian bridge between the civil and district courts would be executed.

Hyderabad District Bar Association president Imdad Unnar also spoke.
