HYDERABAD, May 10: A resident of Junejo Colony, Latifabad taluka, has accused the Site police of committing excesses against him and appealed to the authorities to punish the policemen concerned. The man, Ghulam Ali, was speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Tuesday.

He alleged that when he returned from duty at 4pm on May 7, a police mobile stopped outside his house and the head of Site police station and his half a dozen companions trespassed into his house and subjected him and his wife to violence. He said the police officer also took away ear rings, two gold bangles, a ring and Rs10,000 cash.

He said when he raised hue and cry, people of the locality gathered there but they were threatened by police that if anyone tried to interfere, a case would be registered against him.

He said he was whisked away to the police station where he was tortured. He said that when his two relatives, Riaz and Abrar, came to the police station, they were also subjected to violence.

Mr Ali alleged that he was kept in wrongful confinement and was released in the night after he had paid Rs5,000.

He appealed to the Sindh governor, IGP, Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, director, human rights, Hyderabad, and the RPO to register a case against the policemen and ensure return of looted ornaments and cash.

When asked about reasons for the police action, he said some dispute existed over a water pipe in the locality and some influential people had complained to police that he was supporting the people of the locality.

Mr Ali’s brother, Chaudhry Ghulam Rasool, and a relative, Riaz Ahmad Rana, were also present at the press conference.

When contacted on telephone the head of the police station denied the allegations.
