ABBOTTABAD: The Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC), Abbottabad, has urged the residents, shopkeepers and vendors to dispose of garbage at the designated spots in order to provide clean environment to the city dwellers and tourists.

According to a notification issued by the company’s chief executive officer Engineer Noor Qasim Khan, WSSC has planned a regular campaign to remove garbage from the streets and bazaars to ensure cleanliness and restore natural beauty of Abbottabad.

It said that fines would be imposed under the KP Local Government Act 2013 against all those throwing garbage in the streets and private plots or into drains.

It said that arrangements were also being made to remove garbage from the narrow streets and places where vehicles could not reach.

The WSSC urged the residents to cooperate with the sanitary staff to keep the city clean as Abbottabad was a major tourist spot visited by local and foreign tourists. Sanitary inspectors have been empowered to take on the spot action against violators, it said.

PRESS CLUB, AUJ POLLs: Shahid Chaudhry and Sardar Naveed Alam were re-elected as presidents of the Abbottabad Press Club and Abbottabad Union of Journalists, respectively.

Other office-bearers of the press club included senior vice-president Sardar Faisal, vice-president Wasy Khan and joint secretary Sardar Rashid.

The AUJ office-bearers included vice-presidents Bashir Salar and Nadeem Khan, joint secretary Matiur Rehman and finance secretary Dildar Satti.

Meanwhile, Galyat Development Authority organised a function in a school in Hagia Gali, Nathiagali, and awarded scholarships and grants to the students who excelled in the annual examinations-2017.

MPA Amna Sardar, who was the chief guest on the occasion, lauded GDA for encouraging students of Galiyat. Students of 12 schools were given scholarships ranging from Rs25,000 to Rs50,000.
