ISLAMABAD: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) on Saturday launched a child protection campaign in 40 districts of the country to create awareness among children about how to save themselves from abuse.

The campaign was launched in view of the rising child abuse cases in the country.

Under the campaign — launched in view of growing child abuse cases — children were taught and informed about different methods and the strategies of “shout, run and inform their parents” in a situation where there was any possibility of they becoming victim of any kind of abuse by anyone.

Different aspects of child protection, role of parents, teachers, leaders, government, responsible members of society and legal procedures about child protection were discussed during the campaign.

In this connection, a ceremony was held at the BISP headquarters where BISP chairperson Marvi Memon, along with lawmakers, rights activists, child protection campaigners, celebrities and government officials, stressed the need for protecting children from abuses.

Ms Memon said that the BISP, as the custodian of 5.6 million families across the country and having a countrywide network of 450 offices and 60,000 beneficiary committees, had offered its platform to all celebrities, organisations and institutions to work for the cause of protecting children.

BISP beneficiary mothers, children, lawmakers, members of academia, civil society, media and several organisations working for child protection such as Sahil, UNICEF, UN Women and Oxfam International attended the ceremony.
