HARIPUR The district administration on Saturday sealed over 30 milk selling outlets in the Haripur city and confiscated a large quantity of dairy products deemed unfit for human consumption.

On public complaints, additional assistant commissioners Adnan Jamil and Shabir Ahmed collected samples from 37 milk shops in Mochi Bazaar, Adda Darband, Girls College Road, Chappar Road and TIP area that were selling milk, yogurt, ice cream and khoya.

The samples were analysed at the newly-established milk testing laboratory in the University of Haripur.

According to official sources, dairy products of 33 shops contained contamination of shampoo, detergent powder, formalin and oil.

The sources said all the 33 shops were sealed. The confiscated dairy products and milk were later flushed in a water channel.

Meanwhile, to avoid legal action against the errant shopkeepers the office-bearers of all traders association held talks with the concerned assistant commissioner and tried to persuade him to de-seal the shops on the plea that they were collecting milk from different suppliers and milkmen who could be the real culprits.

However, the negotiations remained inconclusive as the administrative officer refused to soften his stand against the milk sellers.
