GWADAR: Five security personnel were martyred and six others injured in an attack in the Shapok area, some 50km east of Turbat town in Kech district, on Monday evening.

According to officials, two vehicles carrying the Fron­tier Corps personnel were on their way to Turbat from Panjgur when armed men opened fire on them in the mountainous area of Shapok.

“As a result of firing and overturning of the vehicles, five FC personnel were martyred and six others injured,” Turbat Assistant Commissioner Dr Jamil Baloch told Dawn.

He said that the FC personnel deployed in the area rushed to the site and after cordoning off the area shifted the bodies and the injured to the Turbat district hospital.

“Four soldiers of FC succumbed to their injuries on the spot as they received multiple bullet wounds,” the officials said, adding that the condition of two soldiers was critical.

The deceased were identified as Zakir, Masood, Shahbaz Qasir, Farman­ullah and Masood.
