MIANWALI: Teachers continued strike in all the public schools in district which were closed in protest against the chief executive officer (CEO) of district education authority.

The protest has been going on since Friday.

The union of teachers in the district had served three-day notice to Mianwali deputy commissioner (DC) and high-ups of the education department in Punjab government and sent them six demands. The demands included removal of district education authority CEO Mahar Aftab Sial for his alleged financial corruption and objectionable behaviour with the teachers.

After a lapse of three days, the teachers of Mianwali city went on strike from Friday and all the primary and high public schools were closed.

Meanwhile, the director public instructions (DPI) education Punjab, Syed Mumtaz Shah, visited Mianwali on Saturday and held meetings with all the teacher unions but failed to convince the teachers to call off strike.

The teachers of the district joined the strike and all the public schools of the district were closed.

Mianwali Headmasters Union President Dr Sher Afgan Khan told Dawn that it’s strange that none of the high-ups bothered to take notice of closure of schools. He said the strike would continue till acceptance of our demands.

Talking to Dawn by his mobile phone, CEO education Mahar Aftab Sial said all the charges against him were baseless. He said he was following the instructions of the Punjab government and never bowed before the wishes of teachers which had offended them.
