ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan has been elevated to the status of federal minister for revenue.

A notification to this effect was issued on Tuesday. This is the first time in the country’s history that a federal minister for revenue has been appointed.

A well-placed source told Dawn that Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has split the responsibility between Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance and Economic Affairs Dr Miftah Ismail and Mr Haroon.

Mr Ismail will look after the work of finance and economic affairs while Mr Haroon will take care of the revenue policy. The decision was taken to bring cohesion in the new economic team which will work for the next five months, the source added.
