TIMERGARA: The scheduled inauguration of work on the Sanam Dam project in Lower Dir district was postponed on Tuesday over some technical issues. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak was to inaugurate the project.

The dam will be built at Asbanr in Adenzai. Lower Dir Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram told mediapersons that the CM’s visit had been postponed due to demarcation issue on the site.

The residents and Adenzai Qaumi Jirga expressed anger over the postponement of the chief minister’s visit, saying all arrangements were finalised for the purpose.

They said 2,000 chairs were put up on the ground while the stage was also set up for the proposed visit. The residents said they were expecting the chief minister to announce mega development projects in the area.

OFFICE-BEARERS NAMED: Salim Khan Advocate was elected chairperson and Qazi Hussain Ahmad vice chairperson of the district public safety commission for the next two years on Monday.

The announcement was made after a meeting of the commission with its secretary Roidar Ali in the chair. Members of the commission from different parts of the district were in attendance.

Other members of the commission included Ms Sadaf Zaib, Ms Laiq Bibi, Saeed Khan, Shafiq ur Rehman, Fazal Maula, Noor Hazrat and others. On the occasion, Roidar Ali said the public safety commissions played a vital role in improving police performance.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS: Assistant director local government and rural development, Lower Dir, Ziaul Haq on Monday said work on development projects in religious seminaries, mosques and on roads worth Rs130 million was in progress in the district.

Talking to journalists he said Rs680 million more had been released for about 600 small projects in 198 village councils of the district. He said the projects included street pavement, water supply and construction of boundary walls around graveyards. He said Rs270 million had also been released for development projects in PK-94, PK-95 and PK-96 constituencies.
