LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Wednesday approved two model courts – one civil and the other criminal – in every district of the province.

The District Judiciary director general (DG) had sent a letter to the sessions judges to establish two model courts in the district headquarters after the approval of the LHC chief justice.

Earlier, model courts were started as pilot project in Attock, Chiniot, Lodhran, Mandi Bahauddin, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Muzaffargarh and Vehari to provide speedy justice to the public and clear the massive backlog of cases. The LHC issued orders of setting up model courts in the remaining districts after success of the pilot project.

The sessions judges of these districts have been directed to ensure that two courts should be set up for speedy decisions of murder and civil nature in the district headquarters and its subordinate courts.
