Model Town massacre

Published December 17, 2017

THE Justice Najafi report is out and has not clearly named the Punjab chief minister and Punjab law minister as responsible for the massacre of 14 Minhajul Quran workers and supporters and injuring 80.

According to the report, the police officers and civil administration did not cooperate with the finding commission.

Every thoughtful Pakistani knows the style of the Punjab chief minister’s governance and his use of police force for extrajudicial killings. It is also a fact that he accepts the posting of only those police officers who are willing to work as his personal employees. He also likes those district management group officers who are ready to do his bidding.

Every TV channel showed live the Model Town incidents from morning till afternoon. Why didn’t the chief minister after the incident take any action against police officers and bureaucrats involved?

If the chief minister and the law minister were not responsible for the murders, why was report not made public and instead the Punjab government pleaded the judiciary not to allow its publication?

The chief minister must resign, allowing those who are ready to become witness to tell who ordered the operation.

For quick justice, the case should be transferred to a military court. Let the rule of law be established and rich or poor all should be equal in the eyes of law.
