ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) instructed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Wednesday to ensure that television host Aamir Liaquat Hussain did not appear “on any TV channel or radio programme in any capacity for any type of talk, programmes, shows and advertisements” till further orders.

Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui gave the orders after taking up a petition filed by Mohammad Abbas through his counsel Shoaib Razzaq.

The court also sought comments from Pemra, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and the ministry of information. It adjourned further hearing to Jan 10.

Mohammad Abbas stated in his petition that Aamir Liaquat Hussain “spreads hatred by raising controversial issues” in his shows which are “scandalous and beyond the limits of morality”.

He expressed fears that a “law and order situation may develop in the country” if Mr Hussain’s programmes were not stopped.
