PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau arrested an accused in fraud case named Umar Waqas, owner of Umar and Co, Arbab Road, here on Thursday.

According to a statement, the accused was allegedly involved in big loss to the state exchequer by supplying substandard equipment for science labs, stationery items, uniform, etc at exorbitant rates in the name of fake firms. The whole process was conducted in violation of PPRA Rules.

As per inquiry conducted so far, millions of rupees were paid to accused Asghar Awan and Manzoor Ghauri in the name of five fake and non-registered companies including Umar & Co, Ashraf Enterprises, Monica Supply Agency, etc. Heavy loss was caused to state exchequer on account of short supply and substandard supply of generators, vacuum cleaners, electricity equipments, uniform, etc.

The accused persons are allegedly involved in misappropriation of over Rs300 million. It was stated that Tariq Awan, secretary Workers Welfare Board, KP, had already been arrested by NAB, KP. The accused persons will be produced before the Accountability Court, Peshawar, for obtaining their physical remand.
