LAHORE: Wapda maintained their supremacy with an aggregate tally of eight gold medals as eight more events were decided on the second day of the National Men and Women Karate Championships at the Wapda Sports Complex here on Saturday.

Wapda, who claimed all three gold medals on the first day, went on to add five more on Saturday to keep the lead. Army, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with one gold each are the other prominent contenders on the points table.

Shahida of Wapda won gold in female individual kata while Nazdana of Railways secured second position. The teams from Army and Balochistan earned joint third place.

In below-45kg, Ayesha Furqan of Sindh claimed gold while Laiba Zafar of Wapda seized silver. Army and Punjab earned bronze medals.

Beenish Akbar of Wapda won gold medal in below-50kg contest, Sindh’s Iqra Anwar seized silver while Army and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bagged bronze.

Wapda’s Naz Gul clinched gold in below-55kg category, Army’s Razia Talib clinched silver while teams from Balochistan and Islamabad stood at joint third place.

In below-61kg category, Sana Kousar won the first gold medal for Army, Mahnoor Toheed of Wapda earned silver while teams from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad went with bronze medals.

In men’s below-50kg, Ibrahim boosted Wapda’s gold medal tally, Hamayun of Railways won second position while Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa came third.

Mohammad Murad won the first gold medal for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa when he grabbed below-55kg title. Army’s Abuzar secured second spot, followed by Balochistan and Wapda both of whom were third.

In below-60kg, Faheem Haider of Army team won gold and Ali Mehmood of Wapda secured second position while teams from Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were third.

Wapda’s Naseer Ahmed won gold in below-67kg, followed by second-placed Rehmatullah of Railways and Army and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa both of whom obtained bronze.
