LAHORE: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association has expressed serious concerns on the management’s plan to allocate 80-kanal varsity land to the Lahore Electric Supply Company.

Association president Javed Sami with a delegation called on Vice-Chancellor (VC) Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir on Saturday and conveyed to him teachers concern to him.

“The teaching community will not allow allocation of any PU land to any government, semi-government, or private organisation. We are against commercialisation of the university land as it may only be used for educational purposes,” Mr Sami said

He also informed the VC that the teachers would also not accept privatisation of the University Club because it was made for the teachers and senior officers of the university and it was hosting their guests who came for the meetings of the various statutory bodies.

Prof Nasir assured the delegation that the University Club would not be privatised and that no university land would also be allocated to any government or private party.

The association also asked the VC to stop interference of student and teacher wings of political parties in the university affairs. It said only a neutral teacher would be acceptable as additional registrar. Increase in remuneration for teachers under the part-time teaching and facilities heads was also demanded.
