GUJRANWALA, Aug 22: At least a dozen officials of the district jail were suspended from service on the charges of breach of duty and failure to prevent a clash among captives a week ago.

Reports said on Friday some prisoners attacked and injured four of their rivals when they were being shifted from their barracks for security reasons. They also pelted stones on them and raised slogans against the officials. The jail DIG immediately reached there and ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The inquiry committee found a dozen jail officials negligent after which the higher authorities suspended them. They were asked to report at the Lahore headquarters.

Those suspended included Amanullah, warden Ghazanfar Chaddhar, chief cook Zafar Iqbal, and constables Shafiq Rana, Rafaqat Ali, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Arshad Ghuman, Tasawur Shah, Abdul Rahman, Mahmood Ahmad and Shaukat Ali.
