Multan Sultans, the newest of Pakistan Super League's (PSL) franchises, on Tuesday announced their first nine picks.

Shoaib Malik and Keiron Pollard, released by Karachi Kings, will join the Sultans in the platinum category.

They have also managed to rope in Kumar Sangakkara, who will be a part of the squad as a player and mentor. Sohail Tanvir is their other pick in the diamond category while Mohammad Irfan and Junaid Khan are other pacers in the side.

"The silver category features the mystery leggie from FATA, Irfan Khan, all-rounder Kashif Bhatti and middle-order batsman Sohaib Maqsood," a Multan Sultans press release said.

The initial picks mean players including Tamim Iqbal, Jason Roy and Chris Gayle remain unpicked as the franchises prepare for the upcoming draft later this month.

Wasim Akram has already joined the team as director of cricket operations while Australia's Tom Moody will serve as the head coach.
