KARACHI: President Ayub Khan’s book, “Friends Not Masters”, is being brought in Braille by the Pakistan Association of the Blind.

Two of the three volumes in Braille have been completed so far and the third will be produced within this month.

The transcription will help the blind to read the President’s book.

The transcription work is being done by the first batch of the students, mostly housewives, trained by the Association for this purpose.

To make copies, the Association is trying to get a machine so that the book could be sent to other parts of the world.

Apart from the President’s book, the Association has also transcribed seven course books for blind students. — Agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by our correspondent at the United Nations,] Pakistan Foreign Minister Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada during a half-hour meeting with the UN Secretary-General U Thant discussed the world situation with special emphasis on the Middle East and Indo-Pakistan relations including Kashmir and Viet-Nam.

Mr Pirzada also raised the question of Pakistani representation in the UN Secretariat. This issue has virtually come up every year whenever the Pakistani Foreign Minister has met U Thant during the General Assembly sessions.

It is learned that the Secretary-General is sympathetic to this question and has promised to look into the matter of Pakistani representation, especially the level of it.

It may be mentioned here that India is grossly over-represented in the UN Secretariat as well as in many specialised agencies of the United Nations.

The Indians not only occupy three times more posts than they are entitled to under a generally accepted set of rules, but they also hold too many key UN positions, sometimes compromising the impartiality of the UN administration.
