RAWALPINDI: Two brothers were gunned down by unidentified motorcyclists in the cantonment area in broad daylight on Tuesday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Potohar Syed Ali told Dawn that Atiqur Rehman, 39, and his younger brother Shafiqur Rehman, 35, left their home for their workplaces in the morning and were later going to the TMA office when they were attacked by the two motorcycle riders near the military accounts office in Saddar.

“Before leaving their house, the victims had informed their families that they would be going to the TMA office for an important piece of work,” the SP said.

“They never talked about any threat or enmity with anybody which could be the motive behind their killing,” he added.

Kashifur Rehman, the younger brother of the victims, in an FIR registered with the Cantonment police also said his brothers had no enmity with anybody.

The SP said the police shifted the bodies to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem and later handed them over to their families.

He said the police would question people in the neighbourhood of the scene of crime. In addition, mobile phone calls record of the victims will also be checked to trace the killers.

Initial postmortem reports showed that the victims received one bullet in the neck and head each which caused their instant death.

One of the victims owned a leather garment shop in Saddar and the other had an electronic goods shop at Murree Road.
