QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a reference against nine officials of the education department and Accountant General’s (AG) office in Balo-chistan on charges of misuse of power and illegal appointments.

“After completing an inquiry into fake and illegal appointment of hundreds of teachers, NAB has filed a reference against nine officials in the local accountability court,” a spokesman for the bureau’s Balochistan wing said.

Education department’s Director for Schools Mohammad Yousaf, Additional Director Nizamuddin Mengal, District Officer Mohammad Farooq and Deputy District Officer Ghafran Ahmed, AG office’s Senior Auditors Mushtaq Ahmed and Syed Wajahat Shah and Assistant Account Officers Sikandar Alam and Ehsan Ullah have been nominated in the reference.

“Acting on massive complaints against the education department, NAB conducted an investigation and detected illegal appointments of hundreds of teachers,” NAB sources said. “Prime accused Ghafran Ahmed sent hundreds of forms (of newly recruited teachers) to the AG office on which the staff involved in the scam released their salaries without adopting legal requirements.”
