OKARA: Police on Tuesday registered a case against 126 people during a campaign against canal water theft in Renala canal sub-division.

On the report of Renala sub-division Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) SDO Fahim Farid, six cases were registered against agriculturists of distributary 2-L at 28/2-L village on the allegation of stealing water by creating ruptures in the outlet.

The Okara Saddar police registered cases under sections 432, 430, 379 of PPC, 73A of the Canal and Drainage Act 1873 (amended in 2016) against Liaquat Ali, Muhammad Ali, Bashir Ahmad, Muhammad Ashraf, Noor, Naseer Ahmad, Muhammad Sharif, Gulzar Ahmad, Shaheen Akhtar, Muhammad Adnan, Muhammad Shafiq, Abdul Raheem, Muhammad Hassan, Attiqur Rehman, Hashmat Ali and others.

LIGHTNING: A child was killed by lightning and another was injured in two incidents here on Tuesday.

Abdullah, a resident of Gulzarwali Haveli, was playing with other children in the street when rain and thunderstorm started. A flash of lightning fell on Abdullah, 12, who suffered burns and died.

At Haveli Lakha, a seven-year-old boy was injured by a flash of lightning and was hospitalised.

CASES: On the report of environment inspector Ahmad Hassan, police registered a case against two traders -- one at Sher-i-Rubbani Town and the other near Octroi No 7 on GT Road.

The complaint was registered against them when a health department anti-dengue squad visited markets and found them negligent.

The B-Division police registered two cases under section 268, 270 and 278 PPC.
