KARACHI: Outsider unknown pedigree bay mare Sea Gold upset the applecart while galloping to one length victory over mare Salam Kashmir to lift the Rising Moon Cup in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

Running on the heels of Salam Kashmir, the fast-chasing Sea Gold kicked off in the home stretch and overtook the front runner to post her maiden victory.

Chestnut horse Race, who was among the favourites, had to be content with third place beaten by three lengths while another co-favourite bay horse The Champion completed the frame a length-and-a-quarter further behind among seven starters in the four-and-a-half furlongs race.

Owned by Saeed Raza and trained by Sher Mohammad, the victorious horse was ridden home by rider Nazil Hussain.

Earlier when the getting commenced, mare Lucky lady was opened 80 to 100 favourite but later odds of Race and The Champion surged.

Unknown dark bay horse Mera Aftaab annexed the next and concluding race by getting the better of debutant chestnut horse Lapait Lo by five lengths with upcoming rider Mohammad Qais astride.

King’s Khan was placed third beaten by three-quarter-of-a-length while Duran Duran completed the frame beaten by short head verdict in a close finish.

The field was reduced to seven horses following the late withdrawal of Sweet One and Come On Lady.

At the outset, favourite dark bay mare Sweet Lady obliged all and sundry while edging chestnut horse Don Again by neck to annex the opening race.

Sweet Sereena and My Beauty followed the two on board respectively among six starters.

Favourite five-year-old bay horse Minister Of Bhakkar made amends for the earlier loses by imposing to a five-length victory over Lovely Baby to clinch the next race which was also day’s feature event, scale order I, II and III gone over five furlongs.

Chestnut horse Olympus settled third beaten by head while colt Luck Pass completed the board edged by distance.

Trainer Zia-ur-Rehman excelled in his cadre while partnering two winning horses — Minister of Bhakkar and Mera Aftaab.

Meanwhile, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Sept 9.
