ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary party of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday resolved to act like the ‘Great Wall of China’ for the supremacy of the Constitution and continue following the policies of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The party, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, expressed confidence about achieving massive success in the next elections on the basis of its performance and public service.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, it felt that the challenges faced by the country could be countered by strengthening democracy, rule of law and respect for the public mandate.

The meeting passed a resolution stating that the PML-N was the largest party of the country which had steered Pakistan out of economic and financial crises, crippling power outages and terrorism by putting it on the path to economic prosperity, peace and stability.

“Through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a bright future for the country was ensured. The progress and work on CPEC projects would continue with full vigour and would be completed on time,” the resolution stated.

The party claimed that a few political figures, after suffering repeated setbacks in the democratic arena, were out to create confrontation among the national institutions to achieve their negative political objectives.

Lawmakers’ delegations

A delegation of members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, headed by Sardar Aurangzeb Nalotha, called on the prime minister.

Mr Abbasi assured the MPAs that the federal government would provide every possible support for addressing their issues. He advised the elected members to reach out to the people and play their role in resolving the issues faced by them.

He said the federal government had been making every possible effort to assist the provinces and undertake projects that catered to the needs of the people, especially in remote areas.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Aviation Sardar Mehtab Khan, Adviser Amir Muqam and Narcotics Control Minister retired Lt Gen Salahuddin Tirmizi were also present.

Talking to a delegation of PML-N members of the National Assembly from Multan division, Mr Abbasi said socioeconomic development of south Punjab was a priority of the government and it would continue to undertake uplift projects in the region.

The delegation included National Food Security Minister Sikandar Hayat Bosan, Water Resources Minister Syed Javed Ali Shah and Minister of State for Overseas Pakistanis Abdul Rehman Khan Kanju.
