MITHI: Three persons were whisked away from their homes in different areas of Mithi town during pre-dawn raids on Tuesday.

They were identified as educationalist and rights activist Partab Shivani, writer and government schoolteacher Naseer Kumbhar and Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz local leader Mohammad Umer Unnar.

Talking to local reporters, relatives of Mr Shivani and Kumbhar said the two had never been part of any nationalist or political party. They were making efforts for the improvement of education and trying to resolve other issues of the desert region through their activities, they said.

They said the law enforcers entered their houses and took them away without telling them anything.

Rights activists and members of civil society took to the social media to condemn what they termed ‘abduction’ of three persons from Thar. They should be produced in courts if they were involved in any anti-state or criminal activities, they said.
