KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said cruelty and violence against animals must be discouraged in every form.

In a statement released on World Animal Day 2026, observed on Sunday, the chief minister said his government would continue to play its role in ensuring the health, welfare and protection of animals and the promotion of wildlife.

“World Animal Day reminds us of the rights and protection of voiceless creatures. Compassion, love and kind treatment towards animals is our moral responsibility,” he said.

“Sindh is the habitat of partridge, ibex, Indus dolphin, houbara bustard, peacock, deer, crocodile, waterfowl and other wildlife. Sindh’s beautiful and rare animals are part of our natural heritage,” he said, adding: “The protection of wildlife and natural environment is our collective responsibility.”

He said that measures were being taken for the protection of wildlife and the welfare of animals as well as the protection of rivers, lakes, coastal areas and natural habitats, which were essential for wildlife.

The chief minister said that Sindh’s aquatic life and migratory birds were a valuable part of the natural environment. “The protection of the natural habitats of animals and birds guarantees a secure future for coming generations,” he said.

He sought cooperation from the people for the protection of wildlife and said that the people of Sindh should adopt compassion and a responsible attitude towards animals and birds.
