HANGU/KOHAT: Police Training College (PTC) Hangu on Monday arranged a programme to commemorate Youm-i-Shuhada.

On the occasion, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kohat Division, Awal Khan, Commandant PTC Dr Fasihuddin, District Officer Frontier Constabulary Sharbat Khan, deputy commissioner Ihsanullah Khan, DPO Ihsan Khan, district nazim Mufti Ubaidullah, members of civil society, NGOs and mediapersons presented flower wreaths to the 260 family members of police martyrs who got recruited as ASIs after their fathers and brothers were martyred during the war against terrorism.

They are currently undergoing their probationer course in PTC Hangu.

Civil and police officials also placed floral wreaths at the Yadgar-i-Shuhada which was recently built in front of the academic block of the PTC.

A speech competition on KP police sacrifices was held in the college’s parade ground which was attended by students of public and private schools in Hangu and Kohat.

The speakers lauded the role of KP police in delivering commendable and unforgettable services and sacrifices for bringing peace and tranquility to the country.

The winners of the competition were awarded Rs30,000 and certificates.

DIG Kohat Awal Khan, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes to the winners.

The children of police Shuhada also delivered thrilling speeches about their parents and relatives, and expressed their resolve to follow the footprints of their elders.

Noted poets of the area presented poetical tributes to the KP police martyrs.

Dr Fasihuddin and Awal Khan threw light on the importance of the day of Police Martyrs which is celebrated on August 4 throughout the province.

In Kohat, to pay homage to the police martyrs various functions kicked off on Monday where Quran Khwani was held and police organised blood donation camps, which will continue until Aug 4.

A programme would be held at the auditorium of the Kohat University of Science and Technology where ulema, prominent personalities and police officials would be invited to throw light on the importance of martyrdom in Islam.

Qurran Khawani and honorary salute would be held at Kohat Shuhada Chowk and police lines and floral wreaths would also be laid on the martyrs’ graves.

The elders, teachers and students, industrialists, businessmen and heirs of martyrs would also be invited to the functions, a statement issued by police here on Monday said.
