SHANGLA: A local court on Sunday sent the suspected rapist and killer of a five-year-old girl to jail.

The police produced suspect Juma Raaz in an Alpuri court and informed judge Ghulam Hamid about his confession of the rape and murder, said a statement issued here by district police officer Rahatullah Khan’s office here.

The statement said the suspect admitted that he lured the girl before taking her to his house, where he raped and killed her.

It added that the suspect later put the body in sacks and threw it into bushes near his house.

The statement said the court ordered the police to send the suspect to jail.

Also in the day, PML-N provincial president Amir Muqam visited the girl’s house and offered condolences.

He sympathised with the family and assured them of speedy justice.

Mr Muqam asked the provincial government, especially the police, to expedite action on the case for early punishment of the culprit.

WALK HELD: Students, civil society members and clerics on Sunday took out a walk here to create public awareness of the harms of toy guns and celebratory firing. The walk was organised by the Da Ranra Malgari, a rights group, in Lelonai area of Alpuri tehsil.

The rally began from the Young Muslim Academy and ended outside the Jamia Masjid Lelonai after passing through various streets.

Carrying placards inscribed with slogans about the hazards of toy guns and firing in the air, they urged the government to take corrective measures without delay.
