8-year-old girl kidnapped, raped in Karachi

An eight-year-old girl was kidnapped from Karachi's Landhi area and raped before being dumped in Surjani Town in an unconscious condition, local police said Friday.

Orangi Town's Superintendent of Police (SP) Abid Ali Baloch told Dawn that the girl had been recovered from Surjani Town on Thursday night.

Initially, she was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a medical checkup, where a lady doctor allegedly refused to examine her, saying she did not want to appear before the court as a witness, the police official revealed.

Subsequently, the girl was taken to the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors confirmed that she had been raped.

The girl told police that she was a resident of the Future Colony in Landhi. The officer said that a message was sent on the police control to locate her family.

On Friday afternoon, a man approached the police and was taken to JPMC ─ where the girl was being treated ─ and identified her as his daughter.

The father told the police that his daughter was playing outside her home in Future Colony, Landhi, on Thursday at around 5:00pm when she went missing.

The police are investigating the case.

Is there any punishment for Doctors who refuse to treat patients in this country? Lets start revoking their licenses and see if they dare to do that. But on second thought, those who are in charge of implementing are corrupt themselves.

@ZANE Really the concern should also be the easing of the ORDEAL of Doctors, esp. female Doctors, required to testify in courts in a misogyny setting.

Doctors do not take such heinous cases for fear of self security and obnoxious court grill, witnesses of terror crimes fear and disappear for similar reasons. All due to highly fearful police handling. When shall we have a respite from all of these nightmares?

It should not be about the treatment that Doctor can refuse, but to face Court Kachehri in this country is Curse, so no respectable person wants to face that. So from kids to old from poor to rich nobody is safe.

My question to the lady doctor is ; God forbid if this had happened to her own near one would she still refuse to go to courts ? Will she run away from her religious, moral and professional duty?

Such heinous crimes against innocent children are reported regularly. It is mind boggling how any human being can go down so low to torture and often kill a baby. It is a psychiatric and psychological problem with our society. It should be addressed seriously. May be the youth are frustrated because they are not in position to get married mainly due to unemployment and the find no means to get relieved.

@Iqbal thanx for realizing the ordeal a female doctor has to go through in such cases. Ur very right the system needs drastic changes to fecilitate the process. Secondly i demand necessary changes be made by legislators in laws pertaining to rape victoms who mostly go scot free due to loop holes in the laws. An examplery punishment (removal of genitals is easiest) should be prescribed for the rapist , otherwise its a daily routine news unfortunately.

This woman should be stripped of her Medical License and banned from practicing it in the country. This is core to oath taken by all Doctors.
