US

The United States condemned “terrorist” attacks in Tehran that killed 12 people and wounded dozens on Wednesday in the first attacks in Iran by IS.

“The depravity of terrorism has no place in a peaceful, civilized world,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said. “We express our condolences to the victims and their families, and send our thoughts and prayers to the people of Iran,” the brief statement read.

Germany

Germany condemned “in the strongest terms” the twin attacks in Iran. Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said “once again, unscrupulous criminals have killed many innocent people”.

“I condemn in the strongest terms the attacks in the Iranian parliament building and the tomb of the revolutionary leader [Ayatollah Ruhollah] Khomeini,” he said in a statement.

“We mourn with the people of Iran. We offer our condolences to families of the victims. We hope that the many injured will fully recover soon.”

UAE

The United Arab Emirates condemned the twin attacks that killed at least 12 people in the Iranian capital. “Our position on terrorism is very clear ... Any terrorist attack in any country, in any capital, directed at innocent people is something that the UAE abhors and the UAE condemns,” state minister for foreign affairs Anwar Gargash said.

United Nations

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned on Wednesday an attack by suicide bombers and gunmen on the Iranian parliament and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran.

“The Secretary-General hopes those responsible for this unjustifiable violence will be swiftly brought to justice. All countries must work together in fighting terrorism while upholding the universal rights and values that bind the global community,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters.
