Indian border forces allegedly killed a 60-year-old 'Pakistani' woman early on Monday on the suspicion that she was intruding into Indian territory, The Hindu, an Indian daily, reported.
The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot her dead along the border between Pakistan and India in the Gurdaspur area, The Hindu said.
"The incident took place at around 3am in Bariyala of the Gurdaspur sector, when the BSF personnel spotted a suspicious movement along the Indo-Pak border," said the report.
“The woman, aged nearly 60 years was challenged and asked to stop, but when she continued to march towards the Indian territory, she was shot at, resulting in her death,” a senior BSF official was quoted as saying.
The women had covered her face at the time she was shot dead and the BSF personnel did not know it was a woman, claimed the official.

The statement does not seems true because how an aged women can go near border at 3.00 am. Obviously, this sad incident would have been happened in day time or she may be special person and had no idea where she is moving or may be deaf and could not hear the warning. There can be many "MAY BE" but one thing is sure that lack of trust is the factor which becoming the cause of innocent killings on daily basis.

@H Well a if a soldier is asked to fire and kill a woman on the border and it is part of their duty then it is truly barbaric as at many places villages are so near to border or working boundary and sometimes people are so near to these duty bound soldiers while working. What else barbaric means that a 60 year helpless woman was fired and killed by a well armed soldier from his bomb proof bunker

Every time Indians cross border to Pakistani side they are not killed but arrested and if proved innocent repatriated.in year 2016 17 even Indian army jwans who mistakenly crossed to Pakistani side were given a chance to live but Indians bsf are so cruel that they kill children women's and old just for mistake

Even Indian media reported that an infiltrator was shot dead it is only now that we know that it was a woman.

After spy pigeon, Now Indian Army is scared of our 60 year old women who may have lost her way late at night. Most village women dont know English or Urdu to understand any warning, India-Pakistan borders are not very open she can cross it without realising its a border.

@Indi rocks I can answer all except the last as I have never been to border and my village is little away from border Why face was covered as it is custom in Punjab since she was 60 years so she was from old school of thought not that enlightened. Why she did not stop or responded there can be so many reasons but one could be that she never knew that she was that close to border and that she was the intended listener this is when I assume that she was all stable and had normal hearing. Why 3 am as she may be out for call of nature I am sure you yourself know all the answers but not ready to listen to your concise

Most of the village women covers there faces. She didn't stop probably she was deaf and dumb and might be mentally disable...many believable reasons.
What she was doing at 3 am?, she might be calling the natures call, might be mentally challenged as written earlier. Pak rangers presence is less than Indian BSF, in absolute numbers...
Few weeks ago, I remember another Pakistani old man who was deaf and dumb was killed by Indian BSF...DAWN reported that.

@Khurram Well a single human on enemy side was a potential danger as he did not reply to warnings and came so close to the might Indian army soldier even then the soldier could have aimed at he legs to make her immobile as the aim was to keep the danger at a bay. Why there was no choice left but to shot and kill her? It was not LOC it was border of Punjab and it was very clear that she was a single human being

When an Indian soldier with full gear allegedly trespassed into Pak territory during the fake surgical strikes, Pak army captured him and did not shoot him in cold blood although they could have and would have been justified. Contrast that with what the Indian soldiers did to this 60 year old woman. It's not just this woman, Indian soldiers have shot and killed a teenager under similar circumstances near Sialkot border and that happened in full daylight.

They saw someone coming this way and past militant experiences has taught them to not wait too long before shooting. Its sad that a life has been lost and I hope u r sad even when Indian lives are lost in similar border action.

There's just so much mistrust between the countries at this point. Both sides have their own versions of the same incident & nobody knows what's the truth. My question is: How can a 60 year old woman escape the soldiers on the Pakistani side of the LoC & cross the heavy fencing on both sides and what was her purpose in doing so at 3:00 AM?

few months back, 2 Indian nationals crossed Pakistani border and apprehended by Pakistan border force, were handed over back to India after interrogating them ( found innocent)
the question is, why were they not stopped by Indian forces while crossing border?
innocent woman was shot dead there was nothing that she was possessing.

When a person is roaming so close to the border at those hours, what can you expect? The loss of life is regrettable, but so is the foolishness of someone doing those kind of things. There is little point in trying to blame the Indian side. They are trained to shoot under that kind of situation.

@xyz -indian perhaps you do not know that in and around border area, people do cross accidently as there is no physical line there to show which land is belonging to which country. Any villager, as there a number of villages around the border area on both sides of the border, can roam into another country without realizing he or she is in a enemy territory.

It's surprising to see the audacity with which Indians are defending this act. Like other people have said above, since she was already so close and the aim was to immobilize her, why was killing her necessary? Wouldn't bullet to the leg would be sufficient? Humanity is lost again today.

Indian soldiers did what they have to do to protect unauthorised entry. I think Pakistan side would have done the same thing. Proper walls needs to be build on the borders.

Here it was difficult to identified the person who tried to cross the border at wee hours and after repeated warnings to go back. Soldiers are meant to protect the border, they just did what they ought to do.
