KOHAT: Four militants — belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and sentenced to death by military courts — were executed in the prison here on Wednesday.

The hanged men were involved in committing heinous crimes, including killing civilians, attacking a mosque, destroying communications infrastructure and attacking personnel of law enforcement agencies and the armed forces, according to the army’s public relations wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

In a statement the ISPR said the four men confessed to having committed the crimes they were charged with before a magistrate and the trial court.

The militants who were hanged were: Qari Zubair Muhammad of Nowshera, who was involved in a deadly attack on a mosque; Aziz Khan of Swat, who destroyed security installations and possessed suicide jackets; Muhammad Omar of Swat, who was involved in fatal attacks on educational institutions; and Qaiser Khan, who was behind many terrorist acts.

After the executions the dead bodies were handed over to the militants’ relatives.
